The 1948 shilling is relatively common due to its high mintage. However, well-preserved examples, especially in uncirculated condition, are more sought after by collectors. The coin features the bare head of King George VI on the obverse and a lion standing on a large crown on the reverse for the English version, or a lion seated on a small crown holding a sword and mace for the Scottish version.
